Today – was bougainvillea day.
I have a love hate relationship with this plant.
In the UK, it never bloomed for me. It didn’t even bloom in Spain for me. How can anyone not grow bougainvillea in Spain?
Last year I worked on someone’s garden with far too much bougainvillea.
Thorns. Spikes. Thick stems.
Bougainvillea – to be admired. From afar.
Photo taken today, in the botanical gardens.
Beautiful!!! I love the color! 🙂

Bit ott, but – I loved the intensity!

wow, where are my sunglasses?! DT did you loud and proud, and there are enough rocks and foliage that this actually works well. I had a similar colour appear for some crabapple blossoms which had very little reprieve. at least that one didn’t turn out M
but this is not about that post but about your beautiful bougainvillea – blossoms i have loved ever since i visited Bermuda where they grow everywhere. i guess i must have always kept my distance, because i only have good memories of the plant, and this image shows it off so well. thanks for sharing!
and now i well and truly am out of break time for the day – just couldn’t resist this though. 😀

I am not a pink person, but I love the way DT has pinked up on this one 😀
I had a different shot which was similar but paler in intensity and came up feebly so I went for the big time pink.
Did I get the DoF thing?

pink is not my first colour choice either, but some blossoms simply wear it well, and i agree with your assessment of DT 🙂
lol, about the DOF. an almost very photoblog thing to say 😀
seriously though, rather than DoF, i think this is an image which highlights the aspects of both composition and lighting 🙂

Actually I wrote DoF and realised it wasn’t relevant to this pic. I think I was really thinking that the flowers seemed to be in focus for once.
As for composition and lighting 😀 I just wanted to get the abundance of bright pinkness and for once it worked. In fact nearly all my floral photos worked yesterday, I only binned one! I wonder if it was the light? Certainly nothing to do with me!

I had a bougainvillea that flowered last year and then a -18 degree c night in January finished it off even though it was in my conservatory – this week I accepted that it was dead and put it in the compost bin! I like your picture but it’s another crap photo challenge. Whoever does this has zero imagination!

I have green fingers for most plants but bouga is my downfall.
The challenges are pretty er – unchallenging? – right now, but as I wandered around the gardens before it came up, I have one hell of a lot of photos for today 🙂
And thanks. Mostly my pix of bouga don’t work, this one did.

I played golf today and then went to ALDI – I didn’t take a lot of pictures!

Thanks Gilly. I think they are lovely to look at – but working with them is another matter.

Certainly far from mustard 😉
I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never even heard of that plant, it’s certainly a very vibrant colour. 🙂

I think I first encountered them seriously in Lanzarote at an aparthotel (one of our posher holidays) where they were all over the building. Ever afterwards, they always epitomised sub-tropical climates to me. Which is clearly why they would never grow in Newcastle, even indoors. You would think I could have a managed it in Spain though! I’ve killed two of them off, so haven’t bothered trying again.

Not only the plant … the whole page is vibrant! 🙂 I had one, as an indoor plant many years ago, and I think it bloomed once. It looks very impressive here 🙂

I took another pic of a different plant which although still pink, looked totally different.
Haha! Yes it is, but it makes for a change 🙂 Truly shocking pink. Thanks.

Thanks. Although I’m not a pink person, this is my fave shade of bougainvillea. The tiny white flowers, the delicate pink bracts and the mass of colour. That’s what I like – from a distance :D. Thank you.
