It’s easy to take beauty for granted. Especially when it is on your doorstep.
I decided to take the long route home and climbed up through the Alameda Gardens to see what had changed since the last time I visited.
Given that it is already starting to get hot and dry, I was surprised how many flowers were in bloom (post to come on roughseas) – edit – given the ‘today’ theme, I’ll post them on here.
But here was an oasis of greenery, and a water spray. Summer doesn’t arrive until later this month, but in the gardens summer is clearly here, with more than one permanent spray on in the middle of the day.
Every time I visit (which isn’t often enough), I never fail to appreciate how lovely it is to have these beautiful gardens a few minutes walk from my home.
An average UK park is bigger. Harlow Carr Gardens are probably the size of Gibraltar.
Like everything in Gib, we may not have quantity but we do have quality.
Today I met a jogger, a contemplator, a family, and the ever industrious gardeners who look after this beautiful space.
Summer in the Alameda Gardens. It was 27 degrees apparently, the cable car has a weather thing and I noticed it on the way home.

That’s a really nice picture. I’m surprised to see ferns growing like that in Gibraltar! It must have rained shortly before you took it?

There is a beautiful section of the gardens that is lush and green all year round.

lovely! it looks so cool and refreshing, your temperature report notwithstanding. great framing, too! and a beautifully blooming tree – which likely would have been framed in grey by DT if it had been the main image, i suspect.
but
photonon-photo blog talk aside, i think you are right about easily overlooking the beauty that is often right in our faces. every once in a while it is good to blink and realize that it is there. i once had the opportunity to spend a few years away, and that is when i realized for the first time how beautiful my home town is, situated right between the mountains and the ocean, and i so missed the mountain view i had known all my life. in fact it was surprising how much i missed it. l
i found myself in another beautiful spot, with rolling hills and beautiful architecture, and i enjoyed those views too, however it was on my return home that i appreciated having the old view back again. maybe that is why i have become so aware of it, and i enjoy it thoroughly – and intentionally so.

Thank you. I think the tree one could have been sorted, but I wanted the water shot as the main one, and I liked the sludge green 🙂

Ooo, I’ve always loved ferns, I went through a fad of having them in pots all round the house, but I’m not very green fingered 😦
The gardens looks a lovely place to walk 🙂

I used to have quite a few in the last Newcastle garden where they grew extremely happily. I had some in Spain, and split them to get more, but José told me I had done it at the wrong time of year. He was right 😦 I think the only one I have left now is growing out of the bottom of another pot!
The gardens are beautiful and so near. It’s just a slight detour to go in (and uphill), but I was determined to go today, even though I had been dumped with A’s flask and food. We do walk up the back of them with Pippa, as dogs aren’t allowed in (you can see why – scruffy people not picking up) which is quite a nice track (some pix on Pippa’s somewhere). I’ll add some more pix later of the other flowers. I loved the cool atmosphere of this pic, total contrast to the pink one 😀
